Even though the pig kill has a long tradition and it's considered a part of a village folklore, beginning of 2012 there has been a new set of strict hygiene norms approved by the European Commission under a high fine if violated.
There has been decrease of the public pig slaughters since but it will likely never be discontinued completely.
